There is something happening here and I do know what it is

By: André | July 25th, 2008

In five games we have two losses, two draws and only one victory. What the hell is going on? What happened to that unbeatable team that was crushing every opponent; that team which was leading the championship with a huge point advantage?

A team that wants to win the championship cannot play like we have been playing for the last games. Seriously, considering our last five rivals and their positions on the championship, we should have won all the games. Being rational I can say we should have won at least three games, finishing with one draw and on loss.

I know we played away in two games and won a derby, but it is unacceptable. We must win. If Flamengo had won at least three games, at this moment the team would still be on first place with an eight point advantage.

Vulture

I’m not saying that we are the worst team as well as we are not the best. All I’m saying is that who wants to be champion, mustn’t lose a game against a team on the 16th position. We have been playing better than our rivals on all these last five games, it is true. But the score doesn’t count who is playing better, but who is scoring.

Even though we have the best attack, the front men are not working since Marcinho left. Besisdes, our defense has shown that Toró in not a needless player as everybody used to think.

On Sunday we will play against Botafogo. There is nothing better than a derby to start winning. Toró and Kléberson will be back; Bruno and Tardelli are going to be absent. To win, the team must improve, creating ways to free the wingers. On the last three games our opponents came into the field with tactics that blocked our wingers and without tham it is impossible to wim. They are our team.

Facing that our coach should start playing on 3-5-2 with Diego, Dininho, Fábio Luciano and Ronaldo Angelim; Leonardo Moura, Ibson, Toró, Kléberson (Erick Flores) and Juan; Maxi and Souza.

Angelim, Fábio Luciano and Dininho should protect our goalkeeper and with Toró’s help acting almost like a defender, they can cover our wingers’ attacks. At midfield Ibson and Kléberson play near our box, connecting defense and attack, approaching to the rival’s box. In case Erick Flores starts playing, Ibson would develop this function all alone. Maxi will be free as a bird. Caio Jr must say to the argentine “Run, Forest, run!”. He is the connection between midfield and attack, acting sometimes on the left, sometimes on the right, creating the wingers possibilities. Into the area we have Souza (rumors say he is going to Panathinaikos). I know he’s not the best score man, but I also know he can do it.

Acting like this, our wingers can attack, our defense should work, our attack will probably score and we are going to be unbeatable. At least until another player leaves us.

great post André – thank you. I too have been wondering what the problem has been. I have to agree with you about Souza and hope he doesn’t leave. Have you heard much of the Obina situation with Fenerbahçe ?
