One boy less on our list
By: André | July 15th, 2008After Renato Augusto left the team, our board started looking for another midfielder. Four names were said. Renato Abreu, Felipe, Danilo and D’Alessandro. If you take seriously the rumors, I can say to you that the list had five names, including Riquelme.

Yesterday the argentine newspaper “La Razon” announced that D’Alessandro is joining Porto Alegre’s Internacional. Now, we have only three remaining names.
The situation urges for a strong midfield with a quality pass, nice shot and good teamwork. I know it’s a hard job, but this is one of the things a team needs to be a Brazilian champion. All the others we alrready have.
The board should work hard on this task and bring a player in conditions to wear our sacred mantle. A player with the qualities I wrote above, but he must have the major quality to start thinking about wearing the rubro-negra (red and black) shirt. Something we call “raça”. In english, race. But not race as we know. This race means determination; fighting spirit. Rondinelli, who played for Flamengo from 1974 to 1981, was known as the God of Race. Those were good times.

Felipe proved he does not have what it takes to be our player. Danilo isn’t the kind of player we love to watch wearing red and black. Riquelme is an impossible target. Renato Abreu is a great player. Has a nice touch, a nice shot and was a big leader. But he has a problem. He doesn’t play near the goal. We need someone to play there, fighting to score and create opportunities.
I must say I think the board should work harder than now.
A name that could be stronger inside Gávea is Recoba’s. He did not play well last season at Torino and Internazionale does not have interest on keeping the player. But he is a great player, that is always scoring, assisting other players and has a magic freekick accuracy. Recoba is free from Inter and is a good name. Our men should work to bring him. I hope they do.

Not sure the D’Allesandro transfer is confirmed. Olé has reported that Inter’s interest and offer is definitely confirmed but San Lorenzo received him as part of a loan deal and Zaragoza are owners of his transfer so there will be some negotiating and some meetings that need to happen before it’s confirmed. Zaragoza are probably happy to let him go since he’s been a bit of a hot head with their coach and that was the main reason he left the club.
At least that’s what I know today. Tomorrow may be another story.

Looks like Real Zaragoza will own 50% of his transfer and Inter will own the other 50%. But it is still not confirmed. I just saw a live report on Fox Sports from Argentina and they have not confirmed. But like I said, that’s just for today.
I also heard that San Lorenzo, as part of their loan deal with the investors who own 50% of his transfer, are not able to intervene should a third party become interested in the player’s transfer. So, even if they didn’t want to let him go, there’s nothing they can do to keep the transfer from happening.
The investors will then sell their 50% to Real Zaragoza, and Inter will buy the other 50% from Zaragoza effectively buying the investors out. Hence, the back and forth with the Spanish club.
But again, today, no reports out of Argentina are confirming whether or not it’s a done deal.
