We have new clothes!
By: André | July 18th, 2008Yesterday when the team came into the field, lots of peolpe were surprised. A new home kit. Kine surprised everybody announcig just before the game that Flamengo was going to wear a new home kit.
A kit that reminds me the past days before Zico, with thin stripes. Lots of them. Flamengo used to play wearing a kit like the new one on the 1960’s and 1970′.
Some say that is ugly and doesn’t remind us of a great time, because we hadn’t won most of our titles yet. Some say it takes Flamengo to a time when soccer was only soccer and nothing more and these people like the new uniform.
I’m not pretty sure about my feelings. I think we should always wear something to remember the best days of our lives. But I like the idea of wearing something from a time when there was no business only soccer, as well.
The only thing that I’m pretty sure is if Flamengo is in a judicial battle to break the contract with Nike, there is no rease to launch a new kit. Fot those who don’t know, the board is on a fight to break the contract because Nike have broken some contract’s points and our president thinks they disrespected our image. I’m not sure about that, but this isn’t the right text to talk about it. I have to think first and get my points.
Now Flamengo will be playing like this.
As Football Shirt News explained:
The new home shirt of the club will retain the traditional red and black colours. It will be a circular collar shirt with horizontal red and black stripes on the body and on the sleeves. The collar will be black and will have a small golden part on the front. The Nike Swoosh will be golden and placed on the right chest, while the sponsor logos and shirt numbering will be white. The shirt will have a golden trim on the sleeves and on the bottom.
And this is the way we used to play a long time ago.
I think the Away kit is going to be like this one.
I hope that the new kit came to announce a new glorious time.

Hmm, nice kit. Too bad I bought last year’s “retro” kit from the Flamengo futebol Clube directly….
I’ll get the new one next time I go to Brasil.

Thanks for the link, but I think I’ll wait. I’m going to get killed on the tariffs…it’s bad enough importing clothes from the USA (I’m in Canada), and we supposedly have a free trade agreement!
