What a (good/bad) weekend

By: André | August 10th, 2008

Playing badly we beat Atlético-PR at Maracanã. It was a poor game; the fans are still angry with the bad results and the players’ lack of commitment, and didn’t support the team on the field. Sad. This is no the way we use to work. It is for smaller teams as São Paulo, which the supporters only show up when the team is winning.

The back luck doesn’t seem to have gone away. Playing with only one true defender (the other one was an improvised midfielder), we had the first chance of goal right after the first whistle.

After that, Alan Bahia (it seemed to me he was offside) hit our post with a header, creating the only real chance of scoring during the first half. Maxi tried to score too, but he was not on a good position to shoot.

The fans were booing the players, principally Ibson and Leo Moura, who were not capable of making two consecutives correct passes. Since the board guaranteed Ibson contract until next season, he stopped playing as a professional soccer player and started playing like a “slipper soccer player”. This is one of those weekend soccer players, which play on the beach, with his friends, right after getting drunk, wearing his Havaianas. This is what he is looking like.

Leo Moura doesn’t understand he must play on the side. His plays on the midfield are supposed to surprise the opponents. How can something surprise someone when it happens all the time? I suspect it is impossible.

When the watch started counting the last 15 minutes, Jaílton scored. 1×0. After the goal, Flamengo began to play behing the midfield line for the rest of the game.

By the end of the 90 minutes, while still on the field, Ibson said:

When we need the fans, instead of supporting us, they come to criticize. They must be joking.

No, Ibson. You must be joking with us playing this slippery soccer.

And the festival continued after the shower. During the press collective, he said:

We know there is nobody coming. It is hard to sign players.

Wrong again. Later that day, Flamengo announced Marcelinho Paraíba as a new player. He comes to substitute Renato Augusto and Marcinho because ha can play like both did.

Kléber Leite hopes to announce four or five players of reputation who will arrive to fight for a place on the starting eleven. We hope too. I don’t care if we are playing bad or great. I only care for victories and we need to sign some players to make then more frequent once again.
